SparkyLog Review 2026: Is It Worth It for Self-Employed Electricians?
An honest, first-party review. This is a review of our own product, so we’re upfront about that — but we’ll tell you exactly what it does, what it doesn’t, and who it’s right for.
What Is SparkyLog?
A job management and expense tracking app built specifically for self-employed electricians. Runs in any web browser, designed to replace the combination of WhatsApp, notes apps and paper that most sole trader electricians currently use. Part of the NicheApps family, which also includes PlumberLog and apps for other trades — all built by tradespeople, for tradespeople.
Who Is SparkyLog Built For?
The self-employed electrician running their business from their van — not an electrical contractor with 20 employees. If you’re currently tracking jobs and expenses in a notebook, on paper, or in your head, SparkyLog is built for you.
What Does SparkyLog Actually Do?
Customer, address, description, date. Log materials and costs. Mark complete, invoiced, or outstanding. Week view shows everything at a glance.
Create professional quotes, convert accepted ones to jobs in one tap. Pro includes your registration number automatically.
Generate and print professional invoices for any job, with full business details and certification numbers.
Log business mileage from your phone — HMRC rate for UK, IRS rate for US, auto-calculated.
Log against specific jobs or as general business expenses. Feeds the tax report at year end.
Pro accounts run a report for any date range: total income, expenses, mileage, and net profit.

What SparkyLog Does Well
Built specifically for electricians (registration numbers, trade-specific expense categories), no download, tax report always ready, most electricians logging their first job within 5 minutes, genuinely useful free plan, works internationally.
Limitations
No photo attachments to jobs yet (on the roadmap), no route planning or GPS between jobs, no team features on the standard plan, no direct bank feed, no offline mode.
SparkyLog in Different Markets
UK: full NICEIC/NAPIT integration, HMRC mileage rates, UK-formatted tax report. US: IRS mileage rates, state licence number, Schedule C-ready expenses. Canada: CRA mileage rates, CAD, provincial licence number. Ireland: Safe Electric/RECI support, Revenue-ready records, euros. Australia: ATO mileage rates, state licence number, AUD.
How It Compares
Tradify and Jobber are excellent for electrical contractors with teams of 3+ — for a sole trader, they’re expensive and complex. Paper is free but costs you at year end in missed claims. See the direct feature-by-feature comparison in SparkyLog vs Tradify vs Jobber.
Verdict
Right for you if: you want jobs, invoices and expenses organised, tax numbers ready without scrambling, and professional invoices with your registration number — in the UK, USA, Canada, Ireland or Australia.
Not right for you if: you run a team of 5+, need GPS dispatch, or want automated bank reconciliation.
